Northern Laos Biking Loop Tour – Exploring Laos with a mountain bike is fantastic, even if you have limited time. This 5 day mountain biking tour through north Laos leads you out into some remote areas north of Luang Prabang combining cycling with other interesting activities. The magic Mekong on a boat as well as small side roads, the magic Nam Ou river and hidden villages in stunning landscapes are the highlights for this tour. Day 1 – Boat ride to/from Luang Prabang to Pakbeng on the magic Mekong ( L, D )
Pick up at your hotel in Luang Prabang, The bikes will be put on board while you prepare yourself for a soft starting adventure in Northern Laos. An experience very few people are allowed to have. You stay overnight in Pakbeng. Lunch will be served onboard the Mekong cruise boat.
Day 2 – Biking on Laos roads 60+ km ( B, L, D )
Today you’ll be biking through small villages on a good road. You’ll pass by amazing landscapes including mountainous sceneries and the real Lao countryside. You stay overnight in a guest house.
Day 3 – Cycling of the beaten track 70+ km ( B, L, D )
Your destination for today is Oudomxay. But before you’ll arrive there you will have to cross some good (mostly) uphill roads. The cycling trip will guide you through small ethnic villages and some amazing sceneries along the way. Once arrived in Oudomxay you have the opportunity to visit this nice town. Overnight in Oudomxay.
Day 4 – Biking Oudomxay to Nong Khiau 100 km ( B, L, D )
A harder day on your bike with some steep up and downhill riding. Along the way, you will visit some ethnic minority villages, again accompanied by some stunning mountainous views. When arriving in Nong Khiau you stay overnight in the beautifully located riverside lodge.
Day 5 – Cycling from Nong Khiau to Luang Prabang ( B , L )
An exploring bike tour guides you through Nong Khiau and takes you to an interesting cave. The countryside in this area is of special beauty. You’ll bike back to Luang Prabang along the banks of the Nam Ou and Mekong river. The evening brings you a real traditional BBQ in Luang Prabang along the Mekong River.
OPTION: Extend your stay for 2 more days in Muang Ngoi for more a adventurous tour in Laos. You will then explore hidden rivers, caves, and rural life in the Lao countryside.
