How to Get in Muang Sing

By Air

Muang Sing does not have its own airport. The nearest airports are in Luang Namtha and Houayxay, both of which are in the northern part of Laos. From either of these airports, you can travel to Muang Sing by road.

The Luang Namtha Airport (LXG) is located approximately 55 kilometers south of Muang Sing. You can take a taxi or minibus from the airport to Muang Sing, which should take about 1.5 hours.

The Houayxay Airport (HOE) is located approximately 130 kilometers north of Muang Sing. From the airport, you can take a bus or taxi to Muang Sing, which should take about 3-4 hours.

By Train

There are no train services to Muang Sing as it is not connected to the national rail network in Laos. The closest train station is in the city of Oudomxay, which is approximately 62 kilometers south of Muang Sing.

From Oudomxay, you can take a bus, minivan or private car to Muang Sing. The journey should take around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the mode of transportation and road conditions.

However, it's important to note that train travel is not a common mode of transportation in Laos, and the train network is limited.

By Road

  • From Luang Namtha 

Muang Sing is about 55 kilometers north of Luang Namtha. You can take a minivan or local bus from Luang Namtha to Muang Sing. The journey takes around 1.5 hours and costs between 40,000 to 60,000 kip (approximately $5-8 USD).

  • From Houayxay

Muang Sing is about 130 kilometers south of Houayxay. You can take a local bus or minivan from Houayxay to Muang Sing. The journey takes around 3-4 hours and costs between 70,000 to 100,000 kip (approximately $9-12 USD).

  • From Luang Prabang

Muang Sing is about 360 kilometers north of Luang Prabang. You can take a bus or minivan from Luang Prabang to Muang Sing. The journey takes around 8-10 hours and costs between 130,000 to 180,000 kip (approximately $16-22 USD).

  • From Vientiane

Muang Sing is about 680 kilometers north of Vientiane. You can take a bus or minivan from Vientiane to Muang Sing. The journey takes around 16-20 hours and costs between 250,000 to 350,000 kip (approximately $31-43 USD).

It's important to note that road conditions in Laos can be challenging, especially during the rainy season (June-October). Some roads may be unpaved or in poor condition, and landslides or flooding can occur. It's a good idea to check the road conditions before traveling and to use a reputable transportation provider.

Getting around Muang Sing
