Rivers and Lakes

Temples and Stupas

  • That Xieng Tung: It is the most important stupa in Muang Sing. It is said to contain the Adam's apple of Buddha. The construction date is unknown. To the left of the stupa are some steps which lead to a sacred fountain and a sacred stone. If you follow a path to the right of the stupa downhill, you might be able to find the old moat and wall of the stupa.
  • Wat Sing Jai:This is a beautiful temple located in the center of Muang Sing city. It features a traditional Lao-style architecture with intricate carvings and decorations. The temple is an important religious and cultural center for the local community, and it is a popular attraction for tourists.
  • Wat Namkeo Luang: One of the most remarkable monastic structures in Muang Sing is Wat Namkeo Luang. The building is characterized by a grand entrance porch embellished with a red-tongued golden naga, a river serpent, and a remarkably tall and decorative gilded stupa. Across the street, in the gradually gentrifying bâhn, which is a general Lao term for a house or village, some locals continue to use traditional shaduf-style lever wells to draw water.

Markets

  • Tribal Museum: The tribal museum, old Lao-French building that stands out the most houses, consists of two rooms. Downstairs, visitors can admire displays of traditional costumes, while upstairs, there are six cases of cultural artifacts. For an additional fee of 5000K, guests can also watch a 40-minute video about the Akha people.
  • Muang Sing Museum: This small museum is located in the center of town and showcases artifacts and exhibits related to the history and culture of the local Tai Lue people. The displays include traditional clothing, musical instruments, and handicrafts.

Parks and Nature Reserves

This protected area is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Muang Sing and covers an area of over 2,000 square kilometers. It is home to many rare and endangered species of animals and plants, including tigers, Asian elephants, and the white-cheeked gibbon. Visitors can explore the protected area on guided treks and learn about the local flora and fauna.
